The IPH International Summer School has been successfully established in the beginning of the IPH Partnership. Since 2006 a Summer School annually takes place in August or September. During one week students from the partner universities and other international, fee- paying, participants work on IPH issues. Guest lecturers from various backgrounds and nations highlight essential issues of IPH from different perspectives. The course language is English. The Summer Schools usually take place in Bielefeld, Germany, except the Summer School in 2008 which was organised by Baskent University in Ankara, Turkey.

Aim and philosophy of the IPH Summer School
Much of the factual knowledge required for International Public Health practitioners can be learnt from books. It is only through exchange with people from other countries and cultures, however, tha essential skills for IPH practitioners can be aquired. Among these core skills are social competences such as teamwork, mutual respect, and the competence to communicate across cultures. This is what the IPH Summer School attempts to achieve. For this reason, the course places much emphasis on critical discussion and exchange between participants and lecturers as on frontal teaching.
